Baptism and Salvation

📅 February 17 – "Baptism and Salvation"
📖 Bible Text:
"There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ." – 1 Peter 3:21 (NKJV)
📝 Exposition:
Many people claim that baptism is just a symbol and not necessary for salvation. However, the Bible explicitly teaches that baptism is an essential part of God's plan to save mankind.
Peter clearly states that baptism now saves us—not because water has any magical power, but because it is the point at which we come into contact with the saving power of Christ’s resurrection. Baptism is the answer of a good conscience toward God, meaning it is an act of obedient faith.
What happens at baptism?
- Sins Are Washed Away – "Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16).
- One Is Added to the Church – "And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved" (Acts 2:47).
- One Puts on Christ – "For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ" (Galatians 3:27).
- One Receives the Gift of the Holy Spirit – "Repent and be baptized … and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit" (Acts 2:38).
Clearly, baptism is not a work of human righteousness, but a command of God through which we receive His grace. Rejecting baptism is rejecting the very means by which God saves!
📖 Supporting Scriptures:
- Mark 16:16 – He who believes and is baptized will be saved.
- Romans 6:3-4 – We are buried with Christ through baptism into death, that we may walk in newness of life.
✅ Practical Application:
- Reject false doctrines that downplay baptism. The Bible does not teach "faith alone" salvation.
- Ensure your baptism was biblical. Many today are baptized for the wrong reasons. Were you baptized for the remission of sins?
- Teach others the truth. Help people understand that baptism is not optional, but necessary for salvation.
🤔 Reflection Questions:
- If baptism is not necessary for salvation, why did Jesus command it?
- Have I obeyed the gospel in the way the Bible teaches?
💡 Closing Thought (Motivational Statement):
"Baptism is not just an outward sign—it is the God-ordained moment of salvation!"
🙏 Prayer:
"Father, thank You for the gift of salvation. Help me to fully obey Your commands and lead others to the truth about baptism. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
