The Blood of Christ and the New Birth

📅 Week 2 Theme: "Understanding the New Birth"
📅 February 18 – "The Blood of Christ and the New Birth"
📖 Bible Text:
"How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" – Hebrews 9:14 (NKJV)
📝 Exposition:
The new birth is more than just a change in status—it is a spiritual transformation made possible by the blood of Christ. Without the shedding of Jesus’ blood, there would be no forgiveness of sins (Hebrews 9:22). But how does Christ’s blood relate to being born again?
- The Blood Cleanses Us from Sin – "In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins" (Ephesians 1:7). Without the blood of Christ, sin remains, and without cleansing from sin, new birth is impossible.
- The Blood is Applied at Baptism – Jesus' blood was shed in His death (John 19:34). Romans 6:3-4 tells us that we are baptized into His death, meaning that it is in baptism that we come into contact with His cleansing blood.
- The Blood Reconciles Us to God – Before salvation, we are enemies of God because of sin (Colossians 1:21-22). But through the blood of Christ, we are brought near to God (Ephesians 2:13).
The world teaches that forgiveness happens when one simply believes in Jesus—but Scripture teaches that forgiveness happens when a sinner contacts the blood of Christ through baptism. Baptism is not a substitute for the blood; rather, it is the moment God applies the blood!
📖 Supporting Scriptures:
- Matthew 26:28 – This is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
- 1 John 1:7 – The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin.
- Revelation 1:5 – He washed us from our sins in His own blood.
✅ Practical Application:
- Recognise that salvation is impossible without the blood of Christ. No good works or human effort can replace it.
- Be sure you have contacted the blood in the right way. Baptism is the point at which sins are washed away—not before.
- Help others understand this vital truth. Many are sincere, but they do not understand the connection between baptism and the blood of Christ.
🤔 Reflection Questions:
- If salvation is through the blood of Christ, how and when do we receive its cleansing power?
- Have I been baptized for the right reason—to be washed in the blood of Christ?
💡 Closing Thought (Motivational Statement):
"The blood of Christ is the only remedy for sin, and it is applied in baptism—do not neglect it!"
🙏 Prayer:
"Father, I thank You for the precious blood of Christ that cleanses me from sin. Help me to trust fully in Your plan of salvation and share this truth with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
