The Consequences of Sin
📌 February Theme: "Laying the Right Foundation"
📅 Week 1 Theme: "The Need for Salvation"
📅 February 10 – "The Consequences of Sin"
📖 Bible Text:
"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." – Romans 6:23 (NKJV)
📝 Exposition:
Sin is not just a mistake or a small failure—it has serious consequences. The Bible teaches that the wages of sin is death. Just as a worker earns wages for their labour, sin also pays its due reward—spiritual death. This death means separation from God, both now and for eternity (Isaiah 59:2).
In the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve disobeyed God, and sin entered the world (Genesis 3). As a result, death and suffering became part of human existence (Romans 5:12). Sin brings:
- Spiritual death – Separation from God (Ephesians 2:1).
- Physical death – The mortality of mankind (Hebrews 9:27).
- Eternal death – Condemnation for the unrepentant (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9).
Yet, Romans 6:23 does not end with death—it also reveals God’s mercy. While sin brings destruction, God offers a gift: eternal life through Christ. Salvation is not something we can earn—it is a free gift through Jesus’ sacrifice. The question is: Will we choose the wages of sin or accept the gift of life?
📖 Supporting Scriptures:
- James 1:15 – "...Sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death."
- 2 Thessalonians 1:9 – "These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord..."
✅ Practical Application:
- Understand the seriousness of sin – It leads to death and eternal separation from God.
- Recognise God's grace – Though we deserve death, Christ offers us life.
- Make the right choice – Choose righteousness over sin, life over death.
- Warn others – Many live unaware of sin’s consequences; share the truth with them.
🤔 Reflection Questions:
- Do I truly understand the eternal consequences of sin?
- Have I accepted God's gift of salvation through Christ?
💡 Closing Thought (Motivational Statement):
"Sin pays with death, but Christ gives life—choose wisely!"
🙏 Prayer:
"Father, I realise that sin brings death and separation from You. Thank You for the gift of salvation through Jesus. Help me to reject sin and walk in righteousness. In Jesus' name, Amen."
